Donald Trump’s crackdown on crime in Washington, DC worked, according to official data.
As the president’s 30-day emergency order allowing him to take control of Washington DC’s police came to an end, figures from the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia showed the number of violent crimes fell by 10 per cent from the previous three week period.
In that same period, the number of property crimes – meaning when someone’s property is stolen or destroyed – fell by as much as 25 per cent.
In some categories, the results were even more striking: there were just three murders in contrast to eight in the previous period, representing a reduction of 60 per cent.
Also down were reports of burglary and theft from vehicles, a reduction of as much as 40 per cent.
Reports of robbery were down 19 per cent and vehicle theft down by 35 per cent.
