Up to 5,000 police officers could be deployed for Donald Trump’s visit to Scotland.
Police Scotland confirmed that preparations were under way for the US President’s arrival later this month.
The force said it would involve a “significant policing operation”, as police union leaders warned that Mr Trump’s visit would take a toll on an already overstretched thin blue line.
Almost a third of the force’s 16,553 full-time equivalent police officers will either be deployed or on standby, according to the Scottish Police Federation (SPF).
The SPF said many faced having their holidays and rest leave cancelled, adding officers would have to work “around the clock” for the duration of the US President’s stay.
The union also raised concern that police officers deployed far from home would struggle to find accommodation.
