Trump to warn about extremist threat from Antifa

Donald Trump will warn of the extremist threat posed by Antifa terrorists.

The US president will host the event at the White House on Wednesday afternoon to speak to “independent journalists” who have faced violence at the hands of the radical Left-wing group.

Last month, he signed an executive order designating Antifa, generally seen as a loose organisation of extremists united in anti-fascism, as a domestic terrorist organisation.

Members of the Trump administration have blamed Antifa for protests outside an immigration facility in Portland, Oregon, claiming they have “laid siege” to the building and attacked federal agents.

The White House said in a statement released shortly before the roundtable that the group had turned Portland into a “wasteland of firebombs, beatings, and brazen attacks”.

In his executive order, Mr Trump described Antifa as a “militarist, anarchist enterprise that explicitly calls for the overthrow of the United States government, law enforcement authorities, and our system of law”.

In a statement he called it a “sick, dangerous, radical-Left disaster”.
