Donald Trump’s official inauguration portrait has been revealed ahead of next Monday’s ceremony – and has a striking resemblance to his infamous mugshot.

The president-elect is well-lit, and is wearing a blue suit and blue tie – but it is his expression that has captured the attention of keen observers.

Leaning in, Mr Trump has one eyebrow raised and is looking straight at the camera. His mouth is sealed shut.

“Trump really went with the mugshot ascetic with the new presidential portrait,” said Benny Johnson, a Conservative commentator.

Mr Trump’s mugshot was taken at Fulton County jail in August 2023, where he was booked on racketeering and conspiracy charges and released on a $200,000 bond. Mr Trump denies the charges.

That picture saw him scowling at the camera and some social media users compared it to Ben Stiller’s “Blue Steel” look from the movie Zoolander.

The new image, taken by Mr Trump’s chief photographer Daniel Torok is just as stoic.
