Donald Trump does not like or trust Benjamin Netanyahu, a source close to the president said ahead of their meeting in the White House on Tuesday.
The Israeli prime minister is due to speak to the US president in the Oval Office where they are expected to discuss the Gaza ceasefire, ways to counter Iran and plans to normalise relations with Saudi Arabia.
The two world leaders have had a rocky relationship since Mr Trump accused Mr Netanyahu of disloyalty following his 2020 election defeat.
They buried the hatchet during last year’s election, when Mr Netanyahu received a warm welcome at Mr Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. However, the president is said to mistrust the Israeli leader.
During their meeting, Mr Netanyahu is likely to come under pressure from Mr Trump, whose policy goals for the Middle East do not totally align with those of the Israeli government.
“A lot of time has passed and their relations have improved, but Trump still does not like Bibi, does not trust Bibi and has more sympathy for the Palestinians than one might think,” a source close to Mr Trump told Axios.
