Donald Trump has said he is “looking at” reclassifying marijuana as a less dangerous drug, days after he attended a $1m-per-head fundraiser with industry leaders.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Mr Trump said: “We’re looking at reclassification, and we’ll make a determination over, I’d say, the next few weeks.”

The US president said the issue of whether to lower the classification of the drug, which is legal in the majority of US states, is “very complicated”.

He added: “I’ve heard great things having to do with medical and bad things having to do with just about everything else.”

His comments come days after the Wall Street Journal reported Mr Trump had floated the idea of reclassifying marijuana at a fundraising dinner held at his New Jersey golf club.
