Ryan Wesley Routh has challenged Donald Trump to a game of golf in a court filing, days before he is set to go on trial for allegedly attempting to assassinate the US president.
In a bizarre motion filed on Tuesday, Mr Routh called for a “round of golf with the racist pig”, claiming Mr Trump could “execute” him if he wins.
“I win, I get his job (sorry hillbilly Vance)”, the suspected attempted assassin wrote.
Mr Routh, 59, who is accused of trying to kill Mr Trump near his West Palm Beach golf club last year, also used the court filing to request strippers and a putting green.
The defendant is scheduled to go on trial on Monday at Fort Pierce federal court. US District Judge Aileen Cannon signed off on Mr Routh’s request to represent himself in court but ruled court-appointed lawyers must be retained as standby counsel.
The trial is scheduled almost one year after prosecutors say a US Secret Service agent thwarted Mr Routh’s attempt to shoot Mr Trump as he played golf ahead of the 2024 election.
Mr Routh is alleged to have spent weeks plotting to assassinate Mr Trump before hiding himself in shrubbery near the golf course with a rifle.
