Justin Trudeau’s daughter introduced her father as Canada’s prime minister for “one last time”, before saying she and her brothers were now “taking him back” in an emotional on-stage tribute before his farewell speech.
Mark Carney, the former Bank of England governor, took 85 per cent of the vote in a Liberal Party leadership election on Sunday, replacing Mr Trudeau, who had spent more than 10 years as Liberal leader and prime minister.
Introducing her dad at the Liberal convention where Mr Carney was announced as new leader, Ella-Grace Trudeau spoke about the difficulties she faced growing up in the public eye over the past decade.
“My brothers and I have shared our dad with you for the past 12 years. Now we’re taking him back. But before we do, I guess you can have him one last time,” she said, before Mr Trudeau took the stage for his last speech as prime minister.
