Passengers across the UK face further disruption this August and September as the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) and Aslef plan additional industrial action.
Train drivers union Aslef announced a fresh walkout date and a ban on overtime, that it says involves 13,000 drivers and 16 train companies.
The RMT, meanwhile, which represents rail employees such as ticket office staff and train guards, is planning walkouts that will affect the August Bank holiday weekend.
Aslef general Secretary Mick Whelan said: “We don’t want to take this action but the train companies, and the government which stands behind them, have forced us into this place because they refuse to sit down and talk to us.”
Train drivers have staged 11 days of strikes so far in the dispute which began last June.
