Good evening. Rishi Sunak has said that Labour’s new plan to tackle the Channel migrant crisis is “not credible”. And Penny Mordaunt has accused Sir Keir Starmer of having “zero balls” like “Beach Ken”.

Rishi Sunak has said Sir Keir Starmer’s new blueprint to tackle the Channel migrant crisis is not “credible”.

The Labour leader insisted today that closer co-operation was needed with the European Union on the issue, and indicated he could be prepared to do a deal with Brussels involving the UK taking a quota of asylum seekers who arrive in the block in exchange for the ability to return people who cross the Channel.

Responding to Labour’s vision, the Prime Minister said: “Keir Starmer spent all of this year voting against our Stop the Boats Bill, the toughest legislation that any government has passed to tackle illegal migration.”

He added: “So I don’t think it is credible that he really wants to grip this problem and his plans today seem to amount to saying that we might one day accept 100,000 EU migrants every year. That doesn’t seem like a credible plan to me to stop the boats.”
