Turkey’s first lady has written to Melania Trump pleading with her to raise the plight of children in Gaza with Benjamin Netanyahu.

Emine Erdogan said she had been inspired by the letter Mrs Trump sent to Vladimir Putin asking him to consider the children of Ukraine and Russia.

“I have faith that the important sensitivity you have shown for the 648 Ukrainian children ... will be extended to Gaza as well,” she wrote in a letter released by the Turkish presidency yesterday.
