A maths teacher who was stabbed has been discharged from hospital as the school reopened today.

Jamie Sansom, 27, was released from hospital last night after being stabbed at Tewkesbury Academy school in Gloucestershire on Monday.

Mr Sansom, who parents have described as an “outstanding teacher” was attacked in a corridor shortly after the comprehensive school opened for the day.

A teenage boy from Tewkesbury was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and placed in custody after a two-hour chase involving firearms officers, plain-clothed officers and the National Police Air Service.

Police were warned shortly before 9.00am that there was a threat to a teacher at the co-educational state secondary school.
