Teenage British tourist dies in fall from sixth floor of Ibiza hotel

A teenage British tourist has died after falling from the sixth floor of her hotel in Ibiza.

It happened at the Hotel Vibra District in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

A spokesman for the Guardia Civil police force in the Balearic Islands told The Telegraph: “A 19-year-old British woman was killed after falling from the sixth floor of her hotel in San Antonio, Ibiza at 3am on Tuesday morning. It is possible she may have been under the effects of drugs or alcohol.”

Police said they were treating the death as “an accident”. An ambulance crew was called to the scene, but emergency workers could do nothing to save the woman’s life after the fall.

The death is the second involving British tourists in the Balearic Islands in four days. On Saturday, a 28-year-old man fell to his death in front of his girlfriend after tripping over a wall at a four-star Mallorca hotel following a night out.

The unnamed man tumbled over the wall, near the entrance to the adults only Reverence Mare Hotel in Palmanova, falling 15ft before landing next to the hotel’s spa pool.

After a series of deaths caused by “balconing” and other forms of risky behaviour among British tourists in the Balearic Islands over the years, the UK embassy in Spain has attempted to raise awareness of the dangers.

The embassy and the British consulate in Palma, Mallorca, have run a “stick with your mates” campaign, urging tourists out partying to keep an eye on friends who have consumed excessive amounts of drugs or alcohol.
