Syrian rebels have entered the country’s second city of Aleppo in a major advance against the regime of Bashar-al Assad.

Commanders with the jihadist group leading the push said they intended to force the president’s army and his Russian allies out of the city.

Video footage showed fighters pouring through city streets, reaching Aleppo’s sports stadium.
