Rail passengers are facing significant disruption today as services grind to a halt due to Storm Gerrit, train driver shortages and overrunning engineering works.
A number of rail services have announced short notice cancellations, with routes between Birmingham and Cardiff facing disruption expected to last until the end of the day.
Kings Cross and Paddington, two of London’s key stations, are closed for engineering works. Overrunning work in Paddington, which was set to reopen on Wednesday, mean it will remain shut until Thursday meaning no mainline trains are serving Heathrow Airport.
The Met Office has issued several yellow weather warnings across parts of England, Scotland and Wales for strong winds, heavy rain and snow as Storm Gerrit.
Scot Rail has introduced speed restrictions on some of its services because of the severe weather. Trains may be cancelled and delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.
