Southport latest: More than 90 arrests made after far-right fuelled riots erupt across the country

More than 90 people were arrested after far-Right supporters clashed with police in cities across the country on Saturday.

Violent unrest broke out in Hull, Leeds, Liverpool, Bristol, Manchester, Stoke-on-Trent, Blackpool and Belfast, with police attacked in some places.

Riots continued into the night in Belfast as protestors set up road barricades and threw fireworks at police.

In Liverpool, a library was set on fire and protesters tried to prevent firefighters from putting it out, Merseyside Police said.

Sir Keir Starmer said police forces would have the government’s “full support” to take action against “extremists”.

Yvette Cooper, the Home Secretary, said those engaging in violent disorder “will pay the price” and that “criminal violence and disorder has no place on Britain’s streets”.
