Cities across the US have fallen dark as a solar eclipse made its way north-east from Mexico’s Pacific Coast.
Eagle Pass and Kerville, two cities near the Mexican border, were the first to experience the celestial phenomenon at 2:27 ET.
Dallas was plunged into darkness a few minutes later, following warnings that it had just a “50-50 shot” of witnessing the eclipse.
Indianapolis and Cleveland, which lie along the eclipse’s path of totality, were among the other major cities where eclipse-gazers turned out in droves.
Hundreds of couples were married in a mass wedding ceremony in Russellville, Arkansas, just before the moon blotted out the sun – resembling “a huge wedding ring in the sky”, according to organisers.
