Search for Jay Slater focuses on buildings close to where he disappeared

The search for a British teenager missing in Tenerife is focusing on a group of buildings close to where he disappeared.

The move by search teams comes as efforts to locate Jay Slater, 19, entered their seventh day on the Spanish island.

The teenager was last heard from on Monday morning when he told a friend he was lost in the mountains and desperately thirsty.

Officers from the Guardia Civil on the Canary Island could be seen circling two structures at the bottom of a ravine in Rural de Teno Park on Sunday.

The area, which is just a few hundred metres from Mr Slater’s last known location, had already been searched by officers on Thursday.

Those conducting the searches on Sunday could be seen looking into blue barrels outside one of the small buildings.

On whether there were any developments, a police spokesman told The Telegraph: “So far nothing new. Search started early this morning.

“All lines of investigation are open. There is no more information on the matter.”

It comes after Jay’s father, Warren Slater, visited the remote spot on Saturday evening with Jay’s brother Zak Slater, 24.

Speaking for the first time, he spoke just a single sentence through sobs of tears as he told The Telegraph: “I just want the boy back.”

Earlier, Jay’s mother, Debbie Duncan, had told The Telegraph: “I’m just exhausted.”

“I’ve not slept for five days,” Ms Duncan said.

“I’m still hopeful. I’m not feeling negative just yet.

“I don’t know what it’s been like today because I’ve been advised to stay away because I would just break down.

“My boy might be just up there somewhere.

“We’re all devastated. He’s just a normal boy from a little town in Lancashire. These things don’t happen.”

Mr Slater, from the Lancashire town of Oswaldtwistle, disappeared following an attempt to walk back to his accommodation after missing a bus.

He had attended the NRG music festival on the island with two friends before his disappearance.

The walk from Mr Slater’s last-known location to his accommodation would have taken about 11 hours on foot.

Mr Slater’s disappearance has caught the attention of TikTok sleuths who have flown from Britain to Tenerife to join the search for the teenager.

At least five British nationals have each spent hundreds of pounds on plane tickets to make the almost 2,000-mile journey to help with the search, despite having no connection to Mr Slater.
