Maurene Comey, the sacked federal prosecutor, is suing Donald Trump, claiming she was fired because she is the daughter of former FBI director James Comey.
Ms Comey, who has handled high-profile cases including the prosecutions of Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Sean “Diddy” Combs, was ousted in July.
In her lawsuit, Ms Comey has accused the office of the president, Attorney General Pam Bondi and the department of justice of failing to give a reason for her sacking, which she said was “unlawful and unconstitutional”.
The writ added: “In truth, there is no legitimate explanation. Rather, defendants fired Ms Comey solely or substantially because her father is former FBI director James B Comey, or because of her perceived political affiliation and beliefs, or both.”
“The politically motivated termination of Ms Comey – ostensibly under ‘Article II of the Constitution’ – upends bedrock principles of our democracy and justice system.”
