Rare anti-Russian protests broke out in Georgia’s breakaway Abkhazia region on Friday.
Demonstrators stormed the parliament and demanded the resignation of Aslan Bzhania, the Kremlin-backed president.
Hundreds of protesters swarmed the building in the Abkhazian capital, Sukhumi, in an attempt to stop a deal with Moscow which they believe will price them out of the property market.
Unverified videos circulated online show a vehicle ramming through the parliament’s metal perimeter fence and protesters climbing through the windows of the building chanting “resign”.
The mob appeared to break into the parliament with footage showing demonstrators in the corridors. At least two people were injured in the clashes.
