Thousands of pro-Gaza marchers will target the Labour Party conference to demand the Government go further with its arms licence suspension to Israel.
The Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), which organises the regular mass protests in central London, is planning its first national demonstration outside the capital.
The group’s director said that the protest is aimed at putting pressure on the Government to deliver “a halt to all arms trading with Israel and an end to all forms of UK complicity with genocide”.
It comes after David Lammy announced the suspension of some arms export licences to the country, as a review found a “clear risk” that UK arms may be used in serious violations of international humanitarian law.
The decision drew criticism from both sides of the conflict, as the move was condemned by supporters of Israel as well as pro-Palestine supporters who said it did not go far enough.
The march will take place on the eve of the annual Labour Party conference in Liverpool in just over a fortnight.
It is the first time that the group has conducted a protest at the conference, though it has a stall and fringe meeting at the event each year.
Advertising the march to followers on social media, PSC, said: “We take the march to the gates of the Labour Party conference. Assemble 12pm in Liverpool.”
A source said that tens of thousands of supporters could come to the city for the demonstration, with northern branches of the PSC assisting in the organisation of the event.
