Scrapping winter fuel payments for 10 million pensioners could turn out to be Labour’s “great folly”, Nigel Farage suggested.
Sir Keir Starmer’s plan to means-test the payments will go ahead after the Government defeated an attempt by opposition MPs to reverse the policy.
But Sir Keir suffered a huge Labour rebellion as more than 50 of his own MPs failed to vote for the plan.
Mr Farage suggested the policy could come back to haunt Labour.
He told GB News: “Now, of course, there are wealthy pensioners that were getting the winter fuel allowance, but quite why we couldn’t pick up the idea that Lord Cameron pushed, that we just don’t give the allowance to those paying 40p tax or more, I just don’t know.
“I wonder, is this Labour’s great folly?”
