A quarter of Conservative voters believe Suella Braverman should resign as Home Secretary amid a row over her handling of a speeding offence.

A YouGov survey conducted yesterday found that 25 per cent of Tory voters believe Ms Braverman should quit while 44 per cent believe she should remain in her role.

Some 41 per cent of all voters believe she should resign and 22 per cent believe she should stay in her Cabinet post.

The numbers came as Rishi Sunak continues to consider whether to open a formal investigation into whether the Home Secretary may have broken the ministerial code.

The Home Secretary has been accused of asking civil servants to help organise a private driving awareness course as she sought to avoid incurring points on her licence after being caught speeding.

She said yesterday that she had paid the fine and taken the points "and at no point did I attempt to evade sanction". She also said she was "confident that nothing untoward has happened" in the handling of the offence.

Mr Sunak held talks with Sir Laurie Magnus, his ethics adviser, about the matter yesterday and also spoke to Ms Braverman directly, but no decision has yet been made by the Prime Minister on whether there will be an investigation.
