Politics latest news: Less than half of 2019 Tory voters intend to back Sunak

Less than half of 2019 Conservative voters say they currently intend to vote for the party as the Tories bleed support to Labour and Reform UK.

A new Redfield & Wilton Strategies survey found that just 47 per cent of voters who backed the Conservatives at the last general election intend to do so again.

Some 19 per cent said they would vote for Labour if the election was held tomorrow and 18 per cent said Reform UK. The poll was conducted on January 21.

Backing for the Tories was down by three points while support for Labour was up by five points and up by three points for Reform UK when compared to the company’s previous poll conducted on January 14.

The numbers highlight the scale of the challenge facing Rishi Sunak as he seeks to reverse Tory fortunes and steer the party to its fifth general election victory in a row.
