Police in Brussels moved to shut down a conservative conference “with immediate effect” while Nigel Farage was on stage.
Officers entered the venue hosting the National Conservatism event to serve a court order demanding that the conference be ended on the grounds that it endangered public safety.
The police document, seen by The Telegraph, suggested that speeches by figures including Mr Farage and Suella Braverman, the former home secretary, could lead to public disorder or display racist and homophobic views.
While the event organisers mounted a court challenge against the order, police agreed to let it continue but prevented anyone from entering the building.
The conference had already had to relocate after claims of “political pressure” from the mayor of Brussels. It had been due to be held at the Concert Noble venue before it was moved to the Sofitel Brussels Europe hotel.
