Lucy Letby may have harmed more babies, police fear, as detectives reveal they are investigating deaths of children throughout her nursing career.

Amid fears the full extent of the neonatal nurse’s appalling crimes may never be known, Cheshire Police has promised a “full and thorough investigation”.  

Letby, who was found guilty of murdering seven babies and attempting to kill a further six, first qualified as a nurse in September 2011.

The 33-year-old’s nine-month trial at Manchester Crown Court focused on deaths at the Countess of Chester Hospital during a one-year period from June 2015 to July 2016.

Cheshire Police has now confirmed it is pursuing a number of active investigations spanning her five-year career, including events at Liverpool Women’s Hospital.
