Migrants trying to cross the English Channel have been pictured falling into the sea as they struggle to board an inflatable dinghy on a beach in northern France.

Around two dozen young men in bright orange life vests desperately tried to climb on to a black dinghy but several fell overboard as waves rocked the rudimentary boat.
