Palestine Action wants you to think middle-class young women can’t be extremists

I am starting to think that the most annoying thing about Palestine Action and its plummy cheerleaders is not their daft, dangerous stunts. Or even their one-eyed obsession with the world’s only Jewish state.

No, it’s their colossal sense of entitlement. Has there ever existed such a conceited movement? Such a haughty mob of agitators who really do believe that their perfect virtue gives them the right to break the law with impunity?

Everything I read about Palestine Action has the same uppity vibe. “They’re retired vicars!”, columnists cry. “Look at the police arresting surgeons, professors and pensioners!” wail Leftists on X.

There was much rushing to the fainting couch when even a former adviser to King Charles – environmentalist Jonathon Porritt – had his collar felt on a pro-Palestine Action demo in Parliament Square.

The subtext of all this teeth-gnashing is that these people should not be arrested because they are nice middle-class folk with well-remunerated jobs and depthless reserves of moral virtue. The clink isn’t for us – it’s for the riff raff!

The nauseating class arrogance of Palestine Action was summed up by the front cover of The Observer on Sunday.
