Good evening. A wonder drug that can slow Alzheimer’s by 60 per cent could mean the disease is one day treated like asthma or diabetes, experts have said.

The US drugs company Eli Lilly published final results of trials of donanemab – an infusion that helps the brain clear out sticky amyloid plaques that prevent cells from communicating. As well as postponing a worsening of clinical symptoms, the drug allows patients to continue to perform daily activities for longer, reports Sarah Knapton. The breakthrough has been hailed as a “new era” in the treatment for dementia, but experts warned that currently just two per cent of the 720,000 eligible patients would receive the drug because diagnosis in Britain is so poor.

Russia has halted its participation in the Black Sea grain export deal, sending wheat prices higher.
