Marine Le Pen, National Rally (RN) leader, has threatened to bring down the French government on Monday if Michel Barnier, France’s prime minister, does not drop effective cuts to pensions.
Ms Le Pen said she could support a vote of no-confidence introduced by France’s Left-wing bloc against the government, if Mr Barnier refuses to negotiate further concessions.
However, she denied calling the threat an ultimatum and said she remains “constructive”.
“A vote against [the government] is not inevitable. All Barnier has to do is agree to negotiate,” Le Pen said in an interview with La Tribune newspaper.
“There’s been talks for the last two weeks but clearly things haven’t moved ahead as we would have liked,” she added.
The government has until Monday to amend its draft budget for the country’s social security program.
