Dermot the donkey was the star of the show as Winchester Cathedral celebrated Palm Sunday.

The Dean and choristers gave Dermot a warm welcome outside the Great Hall as they embarked on the traditional procession that marks the start of Holy Week.

It is the second time Dermot has joined the proceedings, having made his debut in 2022, the Hampshire Chronicle reported.

Dermot was rescued from Ireland and is now a special assisted therapy donkey, according to his owners, Kelly's Donkeys, who describe him as "the laziest donkey ever".

"He never gets out of first gear and is often seen waddling along in the field, while the others are galloping around," they said.
