Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the illegal migrant who was wrongly deported by the Trump administration, has been re-detained by immigration officials in the US after his release from a Salvadoran mega-prison.

Mr Abrego Garcia, who was wrongly deported to El Salvador in March and then sent back to the US, was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Baltimore on Monday.

ICE was “processing him for deportation,” Kristi Noem, the US Homeland Security Secretary, said in a post on X.

According to Mr Abrego Garcia’s lawyers, the government intends to deport him to Uganda.

In 2019, a judge ruled that Mr Abrego Garcia, who entered the US illegally, should not be deported because he could be harmed in his home country.

However, under Mr Trump’s crackdown on undocumented migrants he became one of more than 200 people sent to El Salvador’s notorious mega-prison, Cecot.
