Fans who had queued for hours to hear Donald Trump speak in Michigan on Friday were disappointed.

The former president was meant to speak at 7.30pm, but turned up almost three hours late.

Some left early, heading for their cars after his campaign played a video explaining that he was still on his plane on the way to Michigan after an interview with Joe Rogan in Texas.

Upsetting voters in a key swing state just ten days before an election might seem like an odd move.

But Trump’s decision to spurn his own event may prove to be one of the most savvy decisions he has made during this campaign.

In his three-hour long chat with Rogan, who has more than 15 million subscribers on YouTube, Trump sought to counter the recent narrative from Kamala Harris that he is a fascist.
