Security has been stepped up at Jewish schools and synagogues in Washington, DC following the shooting of two Israeli embassy staff members in the city.
Similar measures have been taken in other cities with significant Jewish populations, including Miami, New York and Chicago.
Elias Rodriguez, 30, from Chicago, has been charged with the murder of couple Sarah Pilgrim, 26, and Yaron Lischinsky, 30, as they left an event at the Capital Jewish Museum on Wednesday.
He is also accused of causing death through the use of a firearm and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
Rodriguez was filmed shouting “free, free Palestine” as he was arrested, raising fears of further anti-Semitic attacks.
