JD Vance travelled to Utah to collect Charlie Kirk’s family and bring his body home to Arizona on board Air Force 2.

The vice-president cancelled a scheduled visit to New York to mark the anniversary of 9/11 in order to be with Kirk’s widow and family in Utah.

Mr Vance was a close friend of conservative podcaster Kirk who was shot dead while addressing a 3,000-person crowd at the Utah Valley University.

He will return Kirk to his hometown in Arizona, where he lived with his wife, Erika, and their two children on board Air Force 2, the vice-presidential plane.

Kirk, 31, married podcaster Erika Frantzve, 36, in 2021 and they have a three-year-old daughter and a one-year old son.
