Munich police said on Thursday they shot a “suspicious person” outside the Israeli consulate and a Nazi-era museum in the city.
Apparent gunfire could be heard in a video taken by a journalist for Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper from his apartment window. A police siren could also be heard in the background as a woman was seen sprinting away.
Police in the south German city have urged people to avoid the area to the north of the city centre.
German media also reported that the police had shouted out to pedestrians “run, run, run.”
There was no immediate information on why the person was considered suspicious.
The shooting took place on the anniversary of the beginning of the Munich Olympics terror attack in 1972, when Palestinian terrorists took Israeli Olympians hostage.
