Hezbollah has said it bombed an Israeli spy headquarters near Tel Aviv in an overnight attack.

The Lebanese terror group claimed it fired a salvo of rockets at the base of Israel’s secretive 8200 military intelligence unit in the Glilot suburb of Tel Aviv.

Unit 8200 is Israel’s secretive cyber warfare unit, whose activities range from code decryption to data mining and cyber attacks. It is the equivalent of Britain’s GCHQ and is the largest single unit in the Israel Defence Forces. 

Experts have described the unit as the “foremost technical intelligence agency in the world” and has been linked to Israel’s exploding pager attacks against Hezbollah in September.

The Israeli military said a total of 15 projectiles were fired at Israel from Lebanon overnight, adding that some of them were intercepted but others crashed into open ground.

It did not say if the base in Glilot was hit, and did not report any casualties.
