Emmanuel Macron has called for the international coalition fighting the Islamic State group to be expanded to also fight Hamas.

The French President proposed that countries fighting IS in Iraq and Syria “should also fight against Hamas” in Gaza.

He added that France and Israel share terrorism as their “common enemy”, after meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem.

Mr Netanyahu said Israel would “destroy” Hamas, adding that after the conflict no one would live “under Hamas tyranny”.

It comes after he called for a ceasefire in Israel as EU leaders are pushing for a “humanitarian pause” in fighting.
