Israel briefing: Five key developments in the Israel-Hamas war today

Israeli forces backed by fighter jets and drones have carried out a “targeted raid” in Gaza overnight in the latest preparation for a ground offensive.

At least 229 hostages are still being held in Gaza and at least 57 staff members from the United Nations have been killed in the war, according to Israel. The Palestinian death toll has also risen to more than 7,000.

Elsewhere, Sadiq Khan has piled pressure on Sir Keir Starmer after calling for a ceasefire in the conflict.

Here are the five key developments this morning.

1. Fighter jets and drones assist Israel in Gaza raid

Israeli forces conducted another ground raid in Gaza in advance of an expected invasion of the Hamas-ruled territory.

“During the last day, IDF ground forces, accompanied by IDF fighter jets and UAVs, conducted an additional targeted raid in the central Gaza Strip,” the army said.
