The Israeli embassy in London has accused Sir Sadiq Khan of parroting “Hamas propaganda” in a video message celebrating Eid.
London’s Labour Mayor has come under fire for failing to directly condemn the terrorist group while criticising Israel’s military operation in Gaza.
In a video message posted on March 30 to mark the celebration of Eid al-Fitr and the end of the holy month of Ramadan, Sir Sadiq said “more than 50,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza as a result of Israel’s ongoing military campaign, including more than 15,000 children”.
He added: “These betrayals of humanity should weigh heavily on our collective conscience. But I’m proud that, while the international community has chosen to avert its gaze, Londoners have not.”
The Israeli embassy criticised Sir Sadiq for failing to condemn Hamas and not mentioning the plight of the hostages still held by the group.
It also claimed that the death toll the Mayor had quoted was taken from “Hamas propaganda” and not based on facts. “Even this week, Hamas again tampered with the death toll that they reported”, it said.
