Blake Marnell is explaining how he put together his outfit, comprising a novelty orange suit with brick pattern, a matching tie and a red “100 days” baseball cap.
The hat was handmade for the occasion. The suit, bought from a shop selling wares to stag party-goers, he assumed was self-explanatory. “I am the border wall,” he said with a shrug.
The retired salesman from San Diego, California, has driven 2,400 miles over three days to visit a Michigan community college sports hall that has been transformed into the arena for Donald Trump’s 100 days victory romp.
From cracking down on immigration and purging the federal government, to upending the global economy and bringing America’s most powerful institutions to heel, the US president’s whirlwind first few months have given true believers plenty to smile about.
“The reduction in border crossings has been amazing,” said Mr Marnell, his goatee stretching into a grin.
