A Pakistani court has sentenced Imran Khan to 14 years in prison in a land corruption case.
The former prime minister and World Cup-winning cricketer was taken into custody following the sentencing, according to local reports.
Bushra Bibi, Mr Khan’s wife, was also sentenced to seven years in prison.
Judge Nasir Javed Rana said: “The prosecution has proven its case. Khan is convicted,” announcing the prison terms.
A spokesman for the 72-year-old said the case against Mr Khan and his wife Bushra lacked any solid foundation and is bound to collapse.
“All evidence and witness testimonies confirm that there has been no mismanagement or wrongdoing. Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are merely trustees with no further involvement in the matter,” the spokesman said.
