A migrant detainee has died after a gunman opened fire at an Immigration, Customs and Enforcement (ICE) facility in Texas.
The shooter, who used bullets scrawled with the phrase “anti-ICE”, died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The gunman is thought to have fired the shots at about 7am, from the roof of a building adjacent to the ICE field centre.
Todd Lyons, the ICE director, said preliminary information suggested that there was a “possible sniper”.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Joseph Rothrock, the head of the Texas FBI field office, said: “I could also share with you is that early evidence that we’ve seen from rounds that were found near the suspected shooter contain messages that are anti-ICE in nature.”
On Wednesday afternoon, the DHS issued a correction, stating it was just one migrant who had died. DHS officials had earlier said that two detainees had died.
