The parents-in-law of Humza Yousaf have arrived safely in Scotland after being trapped in Gaza for more than three weeks.
Scotland’s First Minister and his wife, Nadia, were reunited with Elizabeth El-Nakla and her husband Maged after they were permitted to cross the border into Egypt via the Rafah crossing on Friday.
It is understood they arrived at Edinburgh airport at about 10.30am on Sunday morning.
Mr and Mrs El-Nakla, from Dundee, had spent the past two weeks in a house where 100 people were sheltering, including a child of two months old.
Mr Yousaf said on Friday that the family was “highly relieved” that his in-laws had left the war-torn region and shed tears when they heard the news. He admitted the experience of being trapped in a warzone had left the couple “severely traumatised” and warned it would take them some time to recover.
