Hamas has handed over the body of hostage Shiri Bibas, it claimed late on Friday, after the terror group gave Israel the body of an unknown Gazan woman on Thursday.

The Red Cross earlier confirmed that it had collected a body from the Gaza Strip late on Friday, two officials told Israeli media.

The body will be handed over to the Israeli military, before being taken to the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute for identification.

“IDF representatives are in contact with the family,” the Israeli military said as reports emerged that a Red Cross convoy was heading to a meeting point in Gaza to pick up Ms Bibas’ remains.

Hamas blamed Israel for not returning the correct body on Thursday, with a group saying it had been mixed up with that of others after an Israeli air strike.

Benjamin Netanyahu decried the incident as a “cruel and malicious violation” of the ceasefire agreement.

Hamas said it was “surprised by the uproar” and accused the Israeli prime minister of stoking a row for his own political ends.

Hamas has long claimed that Bibas was killed in an Israeli air strike alongside her two young sons, Ariel and Kfir.
