An Israeli woman who survived Hamas’s Oct 7 attack by hiding under a pile of dead bodies has been chosen to represent her country at this year’s Eurovision song contest.
Yuval Raphael, 24, was with friends at the Nova festival in southern Israel when Hamas terrorists launched their attack, forcing her to flee to a nearby bomb shelter.
She was selected after winning the Hakokhav Haba (Rising Star) reality song contest in Israel on Wednesday night, meaning she will attend Eurovision in Basel, Switzerland, later this year.
Her song is due to be selected by a committee convened by the Kan public broadcaster in March.
During the final of Hakokhav Haba, Raphael sang a ballad version of ABBA’s Dancing Queen, dedicated to “all the angels” who were killed at the Nova festival.
“Music is one of the strongest ingredients in my healing process,” Ms Raphael said during the show on Wednesday.
