The German army has quit X, the social media platform belonging to Elon Musk, because of disinformation days after the tech billionaire gave his full endorsement to the far-Right AfD party.
The country’s defence ministry confirmed that the accounts for the Bundeswehr national army, its senior commanders and the ministry itself will stop posting on the platform.
The ministry said that the “exchange of factual arguments” on X, formerly known as Twitter before it was bought by Mr Musk, had become “increasingly difficult”.
“We have become increasingly unhappy with developments there,” a defence ministry spokesman added.
The office said that it will shift its social media presence to Whatsapp and that it may occasionally return to X to debunk “disinformation”. Old posts will remain free to browse.
