The Conservatives would still be “screwed” at the general election without Reform, Nigel Farage has said.

Mr Farage’s insurgent Right-of-centre party has overtaken the Tories in a number of polls in the past three weeks, and is on track to cost Rishi Sunak dozens of seats when Britain goes to the polls on Thursday.

But speaking to the Sun’s Never Mind the Ballots web series, the Reform leader said: “If I’d gone to the Bahamas and fished for a month, which was very tempting, the Tories were screwed. They’ve done it to themselves. They’ve broken trust.

“The Conservatives have not delivered Brexit, 5.5 million men and women out there running small businesses feel totally betrayed. Millions of us who’ve wanted lower immigration numbers have seen 2.5 million people over the last two years. You know, the Tories have betrayed Brexit.”

The popularity of Reform has surged since Mr Farage’s surprise return to frontline politics at the start of last month. As well as succeeding Richard Tice as leader, he is also hoping to become the MP for Clacton.
