Donald Trump was able to strike his Gaza peace deal when Hamas terrorists began to see hostages as a liability, US officials said.

The key moment in weeks of negotiations came when the terror group stopped seeing the captured Israelis as an “asset” and had grown tired of the war.

The result was a historic deal struck after 20 hours of negotiations in Egypt on Wednesday.

A day later, the Israeli cabinet approved the agreement, paving the way for Israeli forces to move back from the heart of Gaza and for Hamas to release the final 20 living hostages within 72 hours.

A senior US official said it was a shift in the Hamas stance that made it possible. They had grown weary of a war that was turning their own population against them.
