A Christian summer camp where 27 children died in a flash flood will reopen, to the outrage of the victims’ families.
The owners of Camp Mystic in Texas announced reconstruction plans on Monday in a series of emails that were sent to the victims’ families and former campers.
Camp Mystic’s bosses looked forward to “rebuilding cabins and trails” that were swept away by the floods, the emails said, according to the New York Times.
“We are not only rebuilding cabins and trails, but also a place where laughter, friendship and spiritual growth will continue to flourish,” an email to past campers read.
“We look forward to welcoming you back inside the green gates.”
The new facility will open at the camp’s second site close to the Guadalupe River, which burst its banks on July 4, killing a total of 135 people at the girls-only summer camp in Kerrville.
